Other Stuff

For me, I’m into thousands of bands in a ton of different genres, so it’s really hard to keep up with what’s happening. Here’s a few of the ways I stay on top of new releases.

Visit record stores. I like to spend my time browsing through the record stores. Lots of times they will have a new release section as well as a list of upcoming releases.

The web. I like to use the web to my advantage. I browse band’s websites as well as using billboard, amazon, as well as some sites that specialize in new releases. I also use the web for file sharing, like soulseek, limewire or morpheus. I don’t condone stealing music, but if a band is releasing an new record, you’ll see it here for sure.

Word of mouth. I’ll talk with friends about music. It’s amazing how many bands I’ve discovered just talking to my friends.

Shows. Sometimes the opening band will be good. Or you’ll hear someone say “hey, have you heard ass-jacket?”

Radio. Yeah, right. Actually, believe it or not…I have gotten some good info from radio as well as TV (no thanks to MTV).

Keep your ear to the ground, you don’t want to lose touch with that obscure band that only you love.
